Bayreuth

The festival city of Bayreuth in Upper Franconia is relatively quiet most of the year until the Richard Wagner Festival settles in for 30 days every summer. Bayreuth features a wealth of impressive baroque and rococo architecture, as well as freshly-brewed Franconian beer in the local Biergartens.

Bayreuth Travel Tips

  • Bayreuth is famous for it's "Richard Wagner Festspiele" taking place every year in August. It is hard to get tickets (waiting time of 6-8 years) but in 2008 they introduced a public viewing at the "Volksfestplatz" for about 15000 visitors. You can easily get to Bayreuth via road and rail.
