Beirut is very culturally diverse, and thus, multilingual. Arabic and French are the official first languages but English is widely spoken, and younger people are generally more likely to be fluent in English than older people, and than in French.

Shop signs are in English, so are most restaurant menus, and event listings and such. Road signs however are in French and Arabic.
