Stay at the beach...it's an amazing trip and beautiful. Take your own food...there isn't anything for miles... You happen to visit Big Sur, make sure to take some time off the road and walk the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Trail. the trail is nothing short from spectacular... dont get lost there during wild fire season...not fun...
