Birkenhead

Birkenhead is a town on Merseyside, England, situated on the Wirral peninsula in the historic county boundaries of Cheshire, just across the River Mersey from Liverpool. It is not a tourist destination in its own right but can make for a rewarding afternoon trip from Liverpool, and is well worth a couple of hours of anybody's time.

Birkenhead Travel Tips
Birkenhead travel tips courtesy of GeckoGo
  • When in Birkenhead, you must take the Mersey Ferry across river Mersey to Liverpool. A wonderful experience :-)  Ivana S.
  • The best fish and chips in Birkenhead The aptly named Fish Chip Shop on Norman Street.  Gavin T.
  • Located on the Wirrel. Be sure you get on the ferry as it will take you on a little ride along the River Mersey. You will get to see a lovely view of Liverpool skyline. The ferry ride is really inexpensive. Well worth doing to tie up an hour or two.  Teresa
