Buñol

Buñol is a city in a mountainous area of Valencia province. It has about 10000 people and is the biggest in the region "La Hoya". It is a beautiful city, but the most beautiful are its natural places on the outskirts of the city which are great for walking around. There is a big park, El Planell, where people usually go for a walk and play sports. Weather is typical Mediterrenean with mild winters (although snow occasionally falls) and hot summers.

Getting There

Valencia International Airport (VLC). Has daily flights to major cities in Europe and has seasonal flights to Neww York-JFK and then drive west along the Autovia del Este until you get to Buñol.

Activities

The La Tomatina festival is held every year on the last Wednesday of August. Upwards of 40,000 people descend on the town for a massive tomato fight that literally stains the entire town red.

Buñol is also famous for its two music wind ensembles, they are the most important wind ensembles in the province of València.

  • Got to go for the tomato festival. What a sight.....garbage trucks filled with fresh tomatoes delivering loads to be chucked at one another, filling the streets (and your hair) with tomato juice. Definitely bring some great shampoo and plan on spending a great deal of time in the shower getting off …  Sara M.
