Buncombe County www.buncombecounty.org is in the North Carolina Mountains, and has a population of just over 200,000. The county seat is Asheville, which is also the largest city in the county.
Buncombe was formed in 1791, from parts of Burke County and Rutherford County. It has contributed to the creation of Madison County and Henderson County. Buncombe is at altitude, be aware of this if you come from a flat area.
The county is divided into fifteen townships: Asheville, Avery Creek, Black Mountain, Broad River, Fairview, Flat Creek, French Broad, Ivy, Leicester, Limestone, Lower Hominy, Reems Creek, Sandy Mush, Swannanoa, and Upper Hominy.
English will be more than enough. Be sure to speak in the native dialect. Crick means creek, polecat is skunk, sniffing apple butter means engaging in unprotected anal sex.
This is one of the best areas in North Carolina for sight-seeing, several mountains and waterways shape the geography of Buncombe.
Asheville is known for it's Art Fuco building style.
