Douglas is a very small town in Ward County, in the central area of North Dakota. It has a population of about 64 people. Coordinates are latitude 47.86 N & longitude 101.50 W. Its elevation is 2,055 feet above sea level.

Overview

Douglas is located north of Lake Sakakawea, about 35 miles south and west of Minot. It is between Max and Ryder on the CPR line.

Getting There
  • By car: from Bismarck, travel north on US hwy 83 about 70 miles. About 3 miles past Max, just as you enter Ward County, turn west on two-lane paved road to Douglas, about 9 miles.

  • Douglas Centennial Museum, Douglass. Open by appointment. Tel: (701) 529-4493 or (701) 529-4430. Exhibits from the towns early years, including business, church, and school artifacts.
Activities
  • Fishing: Hiddenwood Lake 7 miles south of Makoti for pike, walleye, and perch. Makoti Lake 5 miles south of Makoti for pike and perch. North Carlson Lake and South Carlson Lake, 8 miles east of Ryder for pike and perch.
  • Hunting: sharp-tailed grouse, ring-necked pheasant, hungarian partridge, sandhill crane, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, fox and coyote. Check here for seasons licenses.
