Garibaldi Provincial Park

Garibaldi Provincial Park www.env.gov.bc.ca is a large wilderness park in the Sea to Sky region of British Columbia. With its snow-capped mountains, alpine meadows and glacier fed lakes, it is considered to have some of the most scenic hikes in the province, as well as offering many other opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

Getting There

The park is accessed from five trailheads off Highway 99 (Sea to Sky Highway) between Squamish and Pemberton.

Activities

Garibaldi Park has some fantastic hiking and there are good trails starting from each of the five trailheads in the park. The more popular trails are well signed, but do not expect anything short or flat. Hikes last from long one-day hikes to multiday trips and many hikes involve elevation changes of at least 1000 meters. Some of the hikes off of the Diamond Head and Garibaldi Lake trailheads, such as the hike to the Elfin Lakes, are particularly beautiful. More detailed descriptions of the popular trails can be found in hiking books widely available at bookstores in the Vancouver area.

Hotels & Accommodation

The only accomodation within the park is backcountry huts and camping. Hotels and similar accomodation are available in the nearby towns of Squamish and Whistler.

Nearby Destinations

If you are looking for more alpine terrain, head to Joffre Lakes Provincial Park north of Pemberton.
