
Garut (formerly Garoet) is a hill resort near Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
In colonial times, Garut was known as "the Switzerland of Java".
Garut is about two hours by car from Bandung, and four hours from Jakarta, depending on traffic.
You can visit almost every places in Garut with Public Transport, or using traditional transportation such as Andong ( a car that pulled by horses ), but some places such as papandayan only can be reach using Ojek ( a transportation that using motorcycle)
Dodol is the most famous food from Garut. You can buy the food at several shops, such as: Toko Panghegar (Jl. Ahmad Yani) Toko Fatima (Jl. Ahmad Yani)
Another thing that is quite famous from Garut is leather products. You can find shoes, jackets, wallets, etc made of leather several shops in Sukaregang.
Sundanese cuisine has a delectable array of snacks which are readily served in most roadside stalls and hotels. Some examples include nanas goreng (fried pineapples), fried cassava, boiled salted peanuts, bakwan sayur (vegetable fritters), etc.
Apart from that, the one thing that Garut is famous for all over Indonesia is the Dodol. It is a sticky sweet available in many different flavours. It is a must try for anyone visiting Garut.
