Giessen

Giessen is a city in Hesse.

Giessen is located in Hessen, between Frankfurt and Marburg. It is easily accessible by rail or car.

The city has about 73,000 inhabitants including 27,500 students, so its infrastructure, shopping and cultural offerings are pretty well adapted to that.

• There is an dwindling US military base in Giessen.

• About 10km in the north of Giessen are some relicts of ancient celtic buildings, e.g. a Celtic oppidum was rebuilt. They are located on the Dünsberg, a small wooded hill on which activities such as hiking and cycling can also be done.

Nearby are some old castles , which can be visited too.

Giessen is home to Justus-Liebig University www.uni-giessen.de.

There is a McDonalds restaurant outside one of the main gates. There are actually fast food restaurants everywhere.

But if you prefer non-McDonalds food, there is an italian restaurant "Adria" in the Frankfurter Straße and a greek restaurant called "Bakchos" in the city centre, near the Marktplatz.
