Herat

Herat is a big, relatively wealthy city in western Afghanistan. The city is well developed because of trade with Iran and in a good shape compared to other Afghan cities. The people are very friendly and hospitable to foreigners and are also more religious than people in Kabul.

Herat Travel Tips
Herat travel tips courtesy of GeckoGo
  • You don't want to go there!  Frederic R.
  • Herat is clean with lots of parks and trees, good electricity, a nice old city with lots of rug shops. We stayed at the Five Star hotel and visited the Friday Mosque and the Jihad museum.  Brian O.
  • A city of intelligence and beauty. Unmatched by any other. I'm obviously biased.  Abba K.
