Hoengseong

Hoengseong is a county in Gangwon. It is known for its clean environment and its cattle industry.

Getting There

Hoengseong borders on Wonju City, the most populated city in Gangwon-do.

By Train

A KTX will connect Wonju to Seoul and Pyeongchang in time for the 2018 Winter Olympics, but for now the only option is a regular-speed train on the Jungang Line, which can be caught at Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul.

By Bus

Hoengseong is a remote place. Travelling from many major cities, you may have to transfer. Direct bus service is offered from Chuncheon, Wonju, Cheongju, Gangneung, and Daejeon.

By Car

Hoengseong is very close to Jungang Expressway, which runs through Wonju and goes as far north as Chuncheon and as far south as Daegu.

Getting Around

The downtown core of Hoengseong is very small, and walking is probably easy enough. To get to one of the parks, it's probably best to take a bus.

Sights

Hoengseong area bears large area of forests thanks to its location. More than 4 forest resorts are still on operation.

There are many more eco-tourism destinations, such as Byeongjibang Ravine and several mountains.

Eating

Hoengseong is famous for Hanu, a Korean breed of cattle. The cattle thrive in the clean environment of Hoengseong. Every October, there is a Hanu Festival where visitors can try many foods made with Hanu beef, learn about traditional farming techniques, and engage in several entertaining activities.
