When tipping, tourists can make fools of themselves because tipping is not a local tradition. In cheaper joints, tipping is not expected and you can take all your change. In more upmarket restaurants a ten percent service charge will have already been included in your bill, so restaurants will accept that as the tip. However, generally it is still appreciated to leave a few dollars, or round up the figures when paying with credit card. Often, restaurants will deliberately give you change in coins even when bills can be given - this is your cue that tipping is appreciated. Tipping is also not expected in taxis, drivers will usually round up the fare to the nearest dollar. However, they will gladly accept when you say "keep the change".
