Lüneburg
Lüneburg is an attractive and historic town on the River Ilmenau, surrounded by the Lüneburg Heath in the North German state of Lower Saxony. The town lies about 50 km southeast of Hamburg and is is the capital of the district of Lüneburg with a population of around 70,000.

- Not a well known tourist town in Germany but well worth a visit with some stunning old buildings from the period when it became rich due to its connections with salt mines. One of my favourite german towns a real undiscovered gem, well worth at least a half day visit. • Andy G.
