In Sportcity, about 45 minutes' walk from Piccadilly Station train station:
B of the Bang, junction of Ashton New Road and Alan Turing Way, Sportcity, www.bofthebang.com. Thomas Heatherwick's masterpiece is the tallest sculpture in the UK, and leans over the junction at an angle greater than that of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It resembles a firework exploding in mid-air and is named after a Linford Christie quote (he said he would always start a race at "the B of the bang" of the starting pistol). Free.
