Marburg

Marburg is in Hesse. Marburg is a small university town north of Frankfurt in the Lahn valley. It was almost untouched by bombs during WWII. The old city is a labyrinth of narrow, cobblestone streets lined with extremely well-preserved examples of 17th and 18th century "Hessische" architecture.

Marburg Travel Tips
Marburg travel tips courtesy of GeckoGo
  • small, medieval town: lots of small alleyways and Fachwerk. Highlights: Old University (founded 1527), Castle and BBQ at the Lahn river. Never stay at Bistro Plateau Hotel!!  Alice W.
  • Hotel Waldeckerhof: Good nights sleep for about 70E. Close to the trainstation in the one direction and the old city of Marburg in the other.  Richard O.
  • If you're looking for quiet introspection on Marburg's gothic architecture, or to walk along the city's hilly shopping streets and medieval alleys unperturbed, it is best to avoid the school season. The town empties one-third of its population when the college kids go home for the summer. Max …  Oliver C.
