Mtskheta

Mtskheta is an ancient town of extraordinary importance to the Georgian nation, located about 20km out of Tbilisi. It was the capital of the eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD.

  • The cattle wandering around the city center is amazing - a pig walked in front uf us as we went to see the old temple here... Really amazing... Kind of like the way there were more cows than cars on the georgian military highway north to Kazbegi...  Joseph T.
  • The best way to get there from Tbilisi: take a bus from the Didube Bus Station in Tbilisi to Mtskheta, but make sure to get down as soon as you see the big cathedral, otherwise the bus will take you into the city where there's not much to see, and of course, the big Sveti-Tskhveli cathedral is the …  Odiseo V.
