Nong Khai

Nong Khai is a city in Northern Isaan. The city lies on the western bank of the Mekong River, only 20 km from Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Nong Khai is a sleepy Thai town with strong Lao influences, and is home to small Chinese and Vietnamese communities as well.

  • Nong Khai, Thailand is opposite the Mekong from Vientiane, Laos. There is a Buddha Park designed by the same monk on either side of the river. There is a train service to Bangkok. • Emma D.
  • You will find the best coffe on the local market in the early morning, order a "caffe lao" • Marietta H.
  • This is where you need to cross into/out of Laos from Thailand to Vientiane. Good transport on the train and bus. Good place to interact with local Thais as they see many tourists pass through. • Iain P.
