Pacific Honduras

Pacific Honduras is the small but important region of Honduras with ports on the Pacific Ocean.

The region consists of the two departments of Choluteca and Valle.

• Choluteca — the regional capital, fourth largest city in Honduras and a major transit point on the Pan-American Highway
• San Lorenzo — the main Pacific coast harbour for the whole of Central America. Close to Amapala, the historical port based in the Isla del Tigre.

Buses depart regularly from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, regularly (every half hour) from Mercado Mayoreo to Choluteca passing through Sabanagrande, Pespire, Jicaro Galan, and San Lorenzo . There is also regular bus service to and from both the El Salvadorian border at El Amatillo and the Nicaraguan border at Guasaule.
