Plakias

Plakias is a village in the Rethymno Prefecture of Crete. By road, several buses daily from Rethimno and Ayia Galini, one in high season from Sfakia I did once see someone arrive on Plakias beach by paragliding, on another occasion a party in canoes.

  • The Monastery of Preveli is situated in this vicinity. The old one (Kato) is abandoned, but the 'new' (Piso) one is not to be missed. if you drive down the mountain to the sea, via a 8km dirt road, you can see the river Megalospotamos enter the sea, with a nice quiet beach • Wim V.
