Savaii is the larger, but less developed, of the two main islands of Samoa. Many people say that Savaii is the 'real' Samoa. It is certainly less developed, with no real towns as such, just a series of small villages with people living in traditional huts.

- Don't worry about finding a ritzy hotel, just stop off at a small village and rent a fale (hut) on the beach. You will be spending all of your time at the beach anyway, so why not sleep there too! Its so beautiful to be able to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of water lapping against the shore. • Kate T.
