Tarabuco

Tarabuco is a city in Bolivia, some 60 km from Sucre. It has gained its fame for its handicrafts and arts, best seen at its Sunday market.

Getting There

Many agencies offer a Sunday daytrip from Sucre, leaving at around 8 AM, at some 30 Bs. Public transport is cheaper.

Sights

An amazingly colorful collection of rural people come to town to buy necessary household items and clothing.

Money & Shopping

The market is an outstanding place to see and buy local textiles and other handicraft items. A section of the market deals not in cash but in barter.

  • Little town about an hour by car from Sucre. Worth a visit for the great market; loads of Bolivian arts and crafts, blankets, hammocks and cheap silver jewelery. You'll get hassled by the little old ladies flogging wristbands but its all good.  David E.
