Tavistock

Tavistock is a town in Devon on the edge of Dartmoor. It was the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake. The name comes from the River Tavy, which runs through the town. Tavistock is on the A386 from Plymouth to Okehampton, the B3357 from Princetown and the A390 into Cornwall It used to have two stations on different lines but is now dependent on buses for public transport.

  • Tavistock is a tranquil little place at the border of the moors and is very good for an afternoon stroll followed by a cream tea. Have a look around in the speciality shop on the main street. They toast their own coffee beans and the smell is great!  Katrin P.
