Waitakere City is a former local authority area that forms the western part of Auckland. Colloquially it is referred to as West Auckland and its inhabitants as Westies. Waitakere City has an area of 367km2, with the urban area being 25.8km2, and a population of nearly 200,000.

- Waitakere is one of those places that a lot of people miss as they fly in to Auckland and leave just as quickly. The black iron sand beaches of the west coast, gannet colonies and surf beaches of Muriwai and Piha and scenic drive which has some amazing views, windy roads and native bush. • Luigi C.
