Wood Buffalo National Park is in the northern prairie region of Canada. Fort Smith is the nearest town. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its large population of bison (largest in North America) and the largest inland delta.
The climate is very mixed and can go from -50 in the winter to +30 (celsius) in the summer.But the average highs per season are about like this Winter:-20 Spring:-1 Summer:+17 Fall:+8
To get in you will have to enter from the nearest town that is Ft.Smith.But Ft.Smith itself is very isolated, So you can drive from Hay River to Ft.smith which taked about 3 and a half hours on a paved/gravel/dirt road just depends where you are on it(all though most is gravel).You can fly to ft.Smith from Edmonton on Northwestern air which has 5 flights a week.
This is the world's only nesting site for the very endangered Whooping Crane, and the last refuge of the now-recovering Wood Buffalo population.
It is also home to the world's largest Beaver dam.
Bug spray, lots of blackflies and huge mosquitos. You should also make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas since you will often be travelling vast distances.
